Natural Boarding Services - Basic Boarding Package Living Arrangements: Our boarding facilities are a work in progress with many plans for the future. We offer natural boarding services based on a paddock paradise type of lifestyle arrangement. What is Paddock Paradise? This is a track system by which natural herd behaviour causes the horses to move along the track in order to obtain feed, minerals, shelter and water. Our horses are always on the move. It is well known and accepted that not only sound natural trimming practices restore horses to good health but natural diet and lifestyle play a much larger role than people might expect. Domestic horses get nowhere near the amount of exercise required to keep their metabolism and hooves healthy. With all the exercise horses get when living in a paddock paradise situation, they are far more limber and require less "warming up" than horses that are kept traditionally in stalls. Symptoms related to joint, chiropractic and muscle issues are practically deminished. Turn Out Our horses live outside 24/7, stalls are rarely used even for rehabilitation as movement is key to healing injuries. We do have large stalls available for incumbant horses as needed. We currently have three turnout areas, consisting of 1 central rehabilitation paddock with soft, sandy footing and 2 large shelters. The central dry lot paddock area is suitable for horses with strict dietary requirements and for those needing soft footing for rehabilitating founder. Each shelter will be equipped with deep pea stone to condition and relieve sore hooves. The second turnout area is a track which goes around a large pond with varying terrain and slopes and hills for adequate turnout exercise. There are 3 large shelters here. The 3rd turnout area is a large grazing paddock with varying terrain about 3 acres in size. The grass grown on this land is well tolerated by the horses and grows on sandy soil, not overly rich in non-structural carbs and protein. We will be implementing a 4th, much larger turnout track about 30 acres in diameter shortly in which horses can graze and be on the move in a larger space, with its own shelters as well. Feed Regimen Each and every horse is placed on an individual feeding program with our natural diet regimen and is fed supplements once or twice per day according to the horse's needs and seasonal factors. Horses all have free access to clean, fresh water year round. Each horse will have free choice access to high quality homegrown hay which is primarily timothy and orchard grass. The hay is distributed all along the track areas to encourage movement while foraging. Our feed program is quite simple, consisting of flaxseed and black oil sunflower seeds for omega 3 and 6 fatty acids as well as a natural vitamin/mineral supplement which doesn't contain sugars, chemicals or preservatives. Probiotics and detox programs can be implemented as needed. Each horse will be visually inspected a minimum of twice daily to be sure everything is in order. Soaking, booting, bandaging and blanketing services are also offered as extra services to the basic boarding package and are included in the rehabilitation board package. Facilities/Amenities: We are located on River Road between Arnprior and Renfrew, Ontario. We have a large dressage sized grass ring (dressage markers to be installed this summer) which can be used for any activity and 50 acres of rolling land to ride on. We have a locked tack shack and feed storage building separate from the barn. We offer a quiet, family oriented environment with a casual and relaxed atmosphere. We are open to all disciplines that keep natural horse care principles in mind. Some future plans for the facilities include but are not limited to the following: Indoor riding arena The Basic Boarding Package includes: Basic Boarding Package Cost: Rehabilitation & Layup Boarding Package: We offer a full in depth, customized rehabilitation program for horse owners who would like to have their horses placed in a natural setting, with natural diet and hoof care regimens necessary to restore their horse's soundness issues, with plans for the horse to then be returned home to continue the recommended care regimen, or to reside here in our basic boarding program.
