Introducing CAHET
The Canadian Association of Holistic Equine Therapists

CAHET was formed in 2006 to provide support and networking for Canadian Practitioners and to provide benefits for horse owners through assured standards and credibility, appropriate referrals and equine education.

Practitioner members will benefit from:

  • National Registry of Holistic Equine Practitioners
  • Represenation of political interests within the equine health industry
  • Inform and educate the government, the public, and the media
  • Ensure professional standards and accountabilit
  • Newsletters
  • Client Referrals
  • Continuing education - seminars, conferences and demonstrations
  • Membership Directory

The CAHET website is currently a work in progress, please check back often for updates. The website is www.cahet.org

CAHET launched its first National Symposium in Armstrong, BC in April. There were over 125 people in attendance and the feedback from the event couldn't be MORE positive! There were seminars on natural hoof care, equine nutrition, natural horsemanship and much more. Planning for next year's Symposium is already underway and we anticipate it being much larger than this year's.

CAHET has its own Barefoot Trimming Certification Program based on the wild horse model and follows the original trimming methods of the AANHCP as well as Pete Ramey and other original field instructors from the AANHCP. It's website will be up and running at some point in the near future. Dave Thorpe in British Columbia is Founder of the program with Anne Riddell and Carolyn Myre as Co-Founders as well as field instructors for the program.

Fore more information on CAHET's trimming program or to register for the program please email Dave Thorpe at: barefootandbalanced@hotmail.com

As well please check back for my casestudies section! C.M.

2007-12-09 Coming Soon! Case Studies section and new Success Stories

Please check back soon for a new section on case studies and sucess stories of some of the horses who have made a major come back from various hoof pathologies and founder in our area.

Please see the attached photo of Cali, a previously foundered Registered Canadian mare with a success story of her own to come in the new year. This note and the accompanying photo was submitted to me by a very proud owner, "You should take pride in the work you have done with Cali. I love the way she moves now!" Cali is back to being a "Gravel Cruncher" as she should be!

Carolyn Myre Fully Certified with the AANHCP
Anne Riddell and I took our last training roadtrip as PTs to Western Grove, Arkansas to complete our final evaluation and booting clinic with Richard Drewry.

The trip and training was gruelling as usual but successful! The first day, we spent 11 hours meticulously precision trimming severely overgrown and supercoriatic cadaver hooves. We then trimmed a few of Richard's lovely horses (Smokey & Bandit). The second day we spent 12 hours learning incredibly invaluable skills sizing, fitting and modifying the Swiss Horse Boots. We shared the clinic with two very nice Europeans, one from Germany and the other from Austria. At the end of the clinic we then trimmed some more cadaver hooves.

I would highly recommend anyone who is in the AANHCP program to spend a few days mentoring with Richard, he is a very warm yet highly knowledgeable person.

What was the most valuable lesson learned here? That the more we THINK we know, the less we REALLY know! We are all on a learning curve with the wild horses as well as the domesticated ones and what is natural and necessary for them to thrive in our world. We need to continue to educate ourselves for our horses, it will make this a better place for all of them! If we can do this, we can open the doors to the healing powers of nature and return our domesticated horses to the healthy, long living and spritely beings that they were designed to be!

To all my clients and colleagues, I would like to thank you for all your endless support and carmarderie in our journey into natural horse care based on the wild horse model!

Cheers to all of you!
